What's The Best Map?
This is completely opinion oriented & driven, so don't ragequit life when someone disagrees with you.
Since playing AVA I've come across many different reasonings to why players like map X over map Y. I really have never encountered a solid amount of people that agree that one particular map is the best. Thus, I am curious as to what the players of WOGL think the best map is, for whatever reasoning. I think it'll be interesting to see which map provides players with what they want and the reason to why they enjoy map X. Perhaps even WOGL can consider the information gathered here for use in the Playoffs or other league related events.
The term "best map" isn't very specific though. I guess what I mean by best map would be the map that is your favourite, that you think provides the best competitive playing field, the most fun map, the most well designed map, the best looking map and whatever else you can think of overall as one word: best. That's where I'm coming from with using the term 'best'. If you disagree with this then provide your own definition of 'best map' for your reasoning. Don't be restrained to how I've defined it.
The one map that I most definitely think is not the best is Hammer Blow. To get into either bomb site, you have to go through choke points. Not wide open ones, but really small ones. Bomb Site 1 you have to go through either 1 of two doors, which are small. For Bomb Site 2, you have to go through Warehouse & Double D's. Both of which have a very narrow width, which just makes it far too easy to stomp on rushes. Any decent team should be able to 8 - 0 an opposing team on defense. There is really no excuse for not being able to hold down either bomb site with five players and only four entrances.
You could argue that this forces players to 'clear' these entrances or be more organized in their pushes, but this is true for every single entrance or 'route' for any map. As well, the map is fairly linear. Unlike other maps where rotating through a 'mid' area would not lead you to either bomb site, but instead allow you to move more dynamically around, instead of having to be at either Site 1 or Site 2 like in Hammer Blow. There is no alternate routes to the bomb sites that aren't going to take you directly to the bomb sites.
I'm not saying the map isn't fun or well designed, but it just isn't up to par or the standards that I'd expect all AVA maps to have considering the other maps in this game.
Black Scent. Yea, I'm definitely going to have to put this map in the same bin as Hammer Blow. It just feels far too linear. Sure you can nade out of Warehouse, or nade from Balcony, but really you only have the choice to go to Bomb Site 1 or Bomb Site 2. There is no alternative routes to the bomb sites that aren't going to directly put you into the bomb sites. Although the mid street & Balcony allows for more strategy to be included in offensive strats, it still suffers from the same limitations that Hammer Blow has. The map just isn't dynamic enough for me. It is still a good map, but it really doesn't seem to increase the ability to be competitive on the map.
Fox Hunting. So we finally get to the map where you have about four different routes to the Bomb Sites other then the two main routes. You have cellar, you have mansion, you have plaza, you have cellar warehouse, Window, Kitchen...etc. Instead of just the main two routes of yellow car > to 1, or 2 stairs > to 2. You still have some narrow entrances or routes, but you also have 1 stairs, 2 stairs or cellars to be as open as you need them to be. This is definitely one of the best designed maps in the game. There's so many peak spots or strategies you can come up with in this map. It's just 'fun' to play this map against another good team because you have no idea whose going to stomp on defense or offense and that's because the map is designed well enough that either side can have the advantage. It's not a one sided map.
Dual Sight. In my opinion it is the best map in the game for Demolition. You have two levels on the map, and both are completely related to playing on the map. They're not just 'extra' parts of the map or filler areas. Not to mention you have a ton of options on how to get to either bomb site or defend either bomb site. Bomb Site 1 you have to wonder if having two guys on top of 1 is better than having a 1/1 split on top and inside the site. The multiple levels are this important in the play style of the teams as well. There's plenty of strategies for this map that I don't think will ever stop being formed. Nade spots as well, it is just amazing how many new nades are found weekly in this version & in the other versions for this map. The design of the map is just immense as well.
To me Dual Sight is the map that anything could happen on. You could 8 - 0 a team on either side. You could get nade-stomped or peaked from dozens of spots. By now if you stand in any of the usual spots in Bomb Site 1 you will either get naded or picked. For Bomb Site 2, you can be naded practically anywhere in there from Mid or Showers. Yet, defense also has the ability to peak from a multitude of spots and prenade easily. The map is just so well designed I just can't get enough of it.
